We are a small, strong congregation guided by the example of Jesus Christ, dedicated to feeding the hungry, while seeking long term solutions to hunger and its related effects. This ministry is organized around the three imperatives, offered by the prophet Micah, for the worship and work of the local faith community--"to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God" (Micah 6:8). Hope Church is a mission oriented congregation that offers our members many opportunities to become actively involved in the congregation’s local and world missions. Ten percent of our annual budget is donated to mission and outreach programs.

Hope’s ongoing mission and outreach programs:

Hope's Members are Compassionate
HOPE IS FOOD, the motto on the blue T shirts Hopers wear, is a symbol of

Hope Presbyterian Church’s mission:  FEEDING THE HUNGRY.

Hope Wheaton is in the eighth year of a partnership with People’s Resource Center, Du Page County providing food to their clients on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

In addition, in partnership with our “sister” church, Hope Presbyterian Church, Chicago, we have helped in several Englewood, Chicago neighborhood feeding programs, including Easter and Thanksgiving.

Hope members meet regularly to write letters to Congress, as a part of our Bread for the World campaign, to urge our legislators to enact programs to protect and provide food for the hungry and poor, worldwide.

People’s Resource Center (PRC)

Some history -- In July, 2008, the members of Hope Church formed a partnership with the People’s Resource Center in downtown Wheaton. We made a commitment to staff the Food Pantry every Wednesday evening from 6-8pm.

In addition to our weekly commitment to the PRC, we donate the proceeds from our Valentine Bake Sale and the Packey-Webb Car Show to the PRC. During the year we collect food items, personal care products, diapers, and books, which are all donated to the PRC. Each December we donate gifts to the PRC’s “Share the Spirit” program. If you are interested in joining us in this local mission effort, please call the church office to sign up. For more information: www.peoplesrc.org

Hope Presbyterian Church in Chicago

For 25 years, Hope Wheaton has enjoyed a partnership with Hope Chicago, an African-American congregation which is located in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago’s south side.

Hope Wheaton travels to Hope Chicago four times a year to assist in Hope Chicago’s neighborhood feeding program. Each year, Hope Wheaton collects coats, hats and mittens which are distributed by Hope Chicago to residents of Englewood.

We have also exchanged pastors and choirs, participated in worship services at each location, and enjoyed fellowship events together. Each August, Hope Chicago travels to Hope Wheaton for our joint annual picnic and softball game. Over the years members of Hope Wheaton have formed life-long friendships with members of Hope Chicago.

La Fernanda Church, Havana, Cuba

In 2012 and 2014, several members of Hope visited Presbyterian Churches in Cuba, 8 in the Havana Presbytery.  A partnership was formed with a small church in Havana, La Fernanda Presbyterian Church.  Hope Wheaton prays for their members and the surrounding community and further supports their mission and ministry with funds and goods gathered for the community La Fernanda serves.

Bread for the World

The Bread for the World Institute seeks justice for hungry people around the world by engaging in research and education on policies related to hunger and development.

Each year members of Hope write individual, personal letters to the President, their Representatives and their Senators, urging action to address hunger in the United States and worldwide. This past year the letter writing program supported the Earned Income Tax Credit legislation as a significant means of helping low-income workers move out of poverty and help them meet basic expenses. The measure was adopted and now is law. For more information: www.bread.org
